Job DetailsFusion Medical Staffing is seeking a Perfusionist for a 13-week travel assignment in New Orleans, Louisiana. Required Qualifications:- Successful completion of an accredited program in perfusion technology
- One year of recent experience as a perfusionist required
- Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)
- ABCP Certification
- Other certifications and licenses may be required for this position
Perfusionists are responsible for operating extracorporeal circulation equipment, such as the heart-lung machine, to support or replace a patient’s circulatory or respiratory functions during surgical or critical care procedures. They collaborate closely with the surgical team and make real-time adjustments to ensure optimal outcomes in life-saving scenarios.
Essential Work Functions:- Conduct preoperative patient evaluation to determine the appropriate extracorporeal components to be used
- Prepare and operate all perfusion related equipment including heart/lung machines, centrifugal pumps, ECMO systems, artificial heart pumps, ventricular assist pumps, intra-aortic balloon pumps, blood pressure monitoring equipment, blood conservation equipment, blood gas, electrolyte analysis, and Heparin management systems
- Perform therapeutic interventions by protocol consistent with changes during perfusion
- Administer medication and blood components as necessary and collaborate with the anesthesia and surgical team for patient management
- Assist with the transport of patients needing cardiac pulmonary support, which may require travel by ground or air
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure appropriate patient care
- Critical thinking, service excellence, and good interpersonal communication skills
- The ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language
- Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills
- Physical Abilities - Must be able to remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), push, pull, and bend
- Interpersonal Skills - Must be able to work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalism
- Technical/Motor Skills - Must have the ability to grasp, perform fine manipulation, push/pull, and move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment
- Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public and customers while meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally, as well as working without assistance from other personnel. Must be able to contend with irregular activity schedules occasionally and continuous concentration to detail
- Sensory - Must possess visual acuity and ability to effectively communicate
