ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled ICU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Float Pool within an Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing patients across medical-surgical, progressive care, and intensive care units.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, implement, and evaluate patient care under the direction of licensed physicians.
• Utilize nursing processes to collaborate with patients, family members, and other healthcare professionals to provide individualized care.
• Direct nursing support staff in delivering patient care in alignment with nursing practice standards and departmental protocols.

Patient Population

The ideal candidate will work with a diverse patient population, including but not limited to:

• Complex withdrawal syndromes (e.g., Opioid Use Disorder, alcohol withdrawal)
• Hypertensive conditions (stable hypertensive urgencies)
• Diabetic Ketoacidosis (subject to specific monitoring requirements)

Expected Ratios

The expected nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2, with a maximum ratio of 3:1 on any unit. IMCU nurses will not be floated to medical-surgical units but may float between IMCU and step-down units.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a clinical specialty area, with at least 2 years of RN experience in general.
• Licenses: Valid Registered Nurse License in PA or MS Compact.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support certification required; additional certifications as needed based on specialty and requirements.

General Exclusions

Patients not appropriate for admission to the IMCU include:

• Those requiring positive pressure ventilation (BIPAP or ventilators)
• Patients with dialysis needs
• Patients requiring arterial lines (A-lines)
• Patients needing continuous therapeutic devices such as a Bair Hugger
