Position Overview

This position is set to commence on July 27 and will last for 8 weeks. There are no requests for time off (RTO) permitted during this period. The role guarantees a minimum of 48 hours per week, with no overtime billed until after 48 hours worked.

Unit Information

• Number of Beds:
  • Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP): 9 beds
  • Obstetrics Emergency Department (OBED): 1 bed
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU): 4 beds
  • Operating Room (OR): 1 suite
• Patient Ratios:
  • 1:1 for active labors, inductions, and C-sections
  • Couplet care: 1:3
  • Newborns: 1:1 until stable
  • NICU: 1:3 intermediate care; at least 2 NICU nurses must be present if there are patients in the unit.
• Staffing Description: No technicians or unit secretaries are available on the unit.
• Type of Equipment: Includes CPN Central monitoring, IV pumps, infant warmers, tele-med robot for neonatologists, bili-blankets, and PCA pumps.
• Documentation System: Meditech and CPN
• Scheduling Requirements: Full-time commitment with three shifts per week, including rotating weekends and holidays.
• Floating Policy: Regular staff may be required to float to other areas if not needed on their unit, with some staff cross-trained between LDRP and NICU.
• Patient Experience Requirements: Daily rounding on all patients and safety rounding are essential.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess labor and delivery experience, which includes being capable of laboring and recovering mothers, as well as safely receiving and transitioning newborns, including assessments. Expertise in handling scenarios such as shoulder dystocia and postpartum hemorrhage, as well as other potential obstetric emergencies, is preferred.

Skills and Certifications

• Advanced skills in fetal monitoring and administration of medications for inductions (e.g., Pitocin, Cervidil).
• Familiarity with procedures performed on the unit, including C-sections, circumcisions, intra-uterine monitoring, and assisted deliveries (vacuum or forceps).
• Required Certifications:
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Fetal Monitoring training

Dress Code

Pink and/or brown scrubs are required as per the infant security policy of the unit.

Work Environment

The unit is staffed by a team of seasoned and experienced registered nurses, with an average of around 30 years of experience each. This provides a supportive learning environment for less experienced nurses. The team is known for its collaborative atmosphere, always willing to assist one another.
