Job Opportunity: RN ICU (MICU) - Massachusetts, Salem

Position Details

• Specialty: RN ICU (Medical Intensive Care Unit)
• Location: Salem, Massachusetts
• Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Unit: Level III Trauma Center, 20-bed Medical/Surgical ICU (MICU)
• Shift: Rotating shifts including days, evenings, nights, and every other weekend (EOW)

  • Day shifts rotate between 7a-7p, 11a-11p, or 7p-7a as needed
  • Night shift does not rotate
• Floating: Required (primarily to Medical/Surgical units, managing up to 4-5 patients)
• RN to Patient Ratio:

  • ICU: 1:2 or 1:1 for high acuity patients
  • Floating to Med/Surg: 1:4 or 1:5

Patient Population & Care Environment

• Adult patients with diagnoses including:

  • Substance Abuse/Overdose
  • Severe Psychiatric conditions
  • Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
  • Sepsis
  • GI bleed
  • Respiratory Failure
  • Cardiac Arrest
  • Renal Failure
  • Cardiogenic Shock
• ICU staffed 24/7 with Attendings and Residents
• Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC

Experience Requirements

• Years of Experience: Minimum 3+ years of general ICU experience required
• At least 2+ years of continuous work experience in one location, preferably in a MICU
• Must be able to read telemetry strips (telemetry competency required)

Certifications & Licenses Required

• Active Massachusetts RN License (no conditional licenses accepted)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Additional Requirements

• Fit Test for N95 respirator within 365 days of start date (no religious exemptions)
• Documentation of immunizations and health screenings including:

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity or vaccination
  • Influenza vaccine during flu season (Sept 15 - April 30), no exemptions
  • TB test within 3 months of start date (skin test or blood test)
  • Health statement signed by a licensed provider within 365 days
• Criminal background checks and CORI (Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information) within required timeframes
• Submission of recent references (minimum 2, including at least 1 supervisor)
• Completion of medication and advanced dysrhythmia exams with passing scores
• Skills checklist and candidate submission coversheet required for application

Summary

This is a rotating shift ICU RN position in a Level III Trauma Center MICU requiring strong critical care skills, telemetry competency, and the ability to float to medical/surgical units. The role demands a minimum of 3 years ICU experience, with at least 2 years in a MICU setting preferred. Candidates must hold an active MA RN license and current BLS and ACLS certifications. Compliance with health screenings, immunizations, and background checks is mandatory.
