Job Opportunity: Float Pool Med/Surg Telemetry RN
Location: Salem, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Float Pool RN position requiring flexibility to float to 8 different units within the hospital.
- Work shifts include Days, Evenings, and Nights with rotation every other week.
- Total hours per week: 36 hours.
- Responsible for cardiac monitoring, managing cardiac drips, and interpreting telemetry strips.
Patient Care & Unit Details
- Float across multiple Med/Surg Telemetry units and other areas including Emergency Department and acute mental health unit.
- Patient population includes ED border patients, non-vented ICU transfer-ready patients, and acute mental health medication nursing.
- Clinician to patient ratio:
- Days & Evenings: up to 5:1
- Nights: up to 6:1
- Units range from 8 to 41 beds.
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of acute care hospital experience preferred.
- Proficient in telemetry monitoring, including measuring intervals and interpreting strips every 4 hours.
- Experience with TR Band.
- Ability to perform cardiac drips and read telemetry strips accurately.
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Active Massachusetts RN license.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (only AHA accepted).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred but optional.
Additional Requirements
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR), specifically EPIC.
- Must be willing to float between multiple units as assigned.
- Rotation includes 1 to 3 night shifts per contract.
- Must meet all health and safety requirements including but not limited to:
- N95 fit testing (within 1 year)
- Immunizations: MMR, Influenza vaccine (required during flu season), TB test, Hepatitis B (strongly preferred), Tdap (preferred)
- Health statement signed by a licensed provider within 1 year
- Background checks and verifications including criminal background, CORI, education, and references are required.
- Must pass medication and dysrhythmia exams with at least 80% score.
- Documentation of work history and skills checklist required.
Summary
This travel RN position is ideal for a telemetry nurse with at least 2 years of acute care experience who is flexible and comfortable floating across multiple units. The role requires strong telemetry skills, cardiac drip management, and the ability to work varied shifts including nights. Compliance with all licensure, certification, immunization, and background check requirements is mandatory.
