Description
Registered Nurse - Stepdown/PCU
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour nights (1845-0715), option to accommodate 4x12 hour shifts if preferred
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty; first-time travelers not accepted
- License: Must have an active Illinois RN license (pending licenses not accepted)
- On-call: No
- Floating: May float within scope as needed
- Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
- Guaranteed Hours: Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay
Specialty & Skills Required
- Work Setting Experience: Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown units
- Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response:
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Telemetry monitoring on unit
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Cardiovascular Care:
- Post cardiac angiogram, MI, cardiac cath, and surgery care
- Sheath removal, TR Band management
- Gastrointestinal: Feeding tube care and management
- Renal: Pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure care
- IV Therapy/Phlebotomy:
- Accessing ports, arterial line management
- Blood product administration
- Central line, PICC line, peripheral line care and management
- Starting IVs
- Medication Management:
- Heparin protocols
- Manage cardiac and vasoactive drips (with and without titration)
- PCA and procedural sedation administration
- Neurological/Psychiatric:
- Craniotomy, CVA, pre/post neurosurgery
- Spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury
- Orthopedics: Ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, total joint replacements
- Plastic Surgery: Skin grafts, surgical drains
- Respiratory Care:
- Ventilator care, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
- External CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
- ABG interpretation, oxygen delivery devices, portable oxygen tanks
- Non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy care
- Professional Skills: Isolation precautions, wound care including wound vac
- Preferred Experience: Cerner charting, teaching hospital, Level I trauma center experience
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or equivalent
- NIH certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred but not required
Schedule & Other Requirements
- Scrub color: Any solid color
- Charting system: Cerner preferred
- Parking permit required (no cost)
- Must be able to accommodate return-to-office restrictions ideally no more than 5 days
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Illinois RN license with primary source verification
- Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and state-specific searches within 30 days of start
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs and immunizations (MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, TB screening)
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Competency exam required for clinical candidates
- Badge photo required prior to start
- References: 2 professional references required
- Fingerprinting and Illinois Healthcare Registry Worker results required if no active IL license
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Telemetry experience with a minimum of 1 year, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Intermediate Care experience
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
