Description
Registered Nurse - PACU (Travel/Contract)
Location: San Francisco, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide individualized peri-anesthesia nursing care for geriatric, adult, and adolescent patients from admission through discharge. Requires knowledge of peri-anesthesia standards, airway management, nursing assessments, and pharmacology including medication doses, purposes, interactions, side effects, and reactions.
Shift Details
- 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (40 hours/week)
- Start times between 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
- No weekends required
- Float to other campuses as needed based on census
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Minimum 2 years of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- PALS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Cardiac Cath Lab experience
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check within 6 months of start, including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification, and motor vehicle report if applicable
- FACIS Level 3 screening required within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter (or equivalent checks if FACIS III unavailable)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and updated annually
- Sex offender search within 90 days of start
- Education verification of highest level achieved (Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred)
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance for work
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually (with accommodations for religious exemptions or failed tests)
- TB screening questionnaire within 90 days of start, renewed annually, with negative TB test or chest x-ray as required
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (series or declination)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30)
- Respiratory safety clearance prior to start, renewed annually
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Unit-specific skills checklist, renewed annually
- EKG/dysrhythmia competency exam may be required
- ICU RNs at this facility required to take an onsite EKG exam after start
Documentation and Verification
- Full 7 years of work history required on application, with no gaps over 30 days unexplained
- Employment verification for up to 7 years required; attestations allowed only for gaps under 1 year with multiple verification attempts
- Two professional references required within 3 years for clinical acute care candidates
- Primary source license verification within 30 days of start (NURSYS verification for RN license)
- Official transcripts/diplomas or attestation of verification attempts required for education verification
