Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical - Neuro Registered Nurse

Shift Details
- Day shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM to 6:00 PM)
- Must work every other weekend
- Floating within scope as needed
- Block schedule requests can be discussed with manager
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Med Surg / Telemetry experience (minimum 2 years), with experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- NIHSS certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience with continuous bladder irrigation
- Blood product administration experience
- Central line blood draws
- PICC line management
- Surgical drains management experience
- Use of rapid response teams
- Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac) experience
- CPAP/BiPAP experience
- Pre/post thoracic surgery experience
- Tracheostomy management
- Experience with Cerner electronic health record system
Clinical Skills & Experience Required
- Med/Surg nursing experience
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response: Telemetry remote monitoring, use of Rapid Response Teams
- Gastrointestinal care: Colostomy care, feeding tube care and management
- IV therapy/phlebotomy: Accessing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting IVs
- Medication administration experience: Heparin, insulin, PCA
- Neurological/psychiatric care: CVA, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury
- Surgical drains management
- Respiratory care: Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, pre/post thoracic surgery, tracheostomy management
- Professional knowledge: Isolation precautions, wound care/wound vac, continuous bladder irrigation
- Experience with Cerner electronic health record system required
Preferred Experience
- Teaching hospital experience
- Level II trauma center experience
Work Environment
- Acute care hospital with 372 staffed beds
- Level II Trauma center
- Royal blue scrub color
- Cerner charting system
- Parking permit required (no cost)
Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, updated annually
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming good physical and mental health, free of communicable disease, and ability to perform job functions without restrictions
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
- Immunization or documented immunity required for: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
- TB test (2-step PPD, TSPOT, or Qgold) within 1 year of start; chest x-ray if positive TB test
- Competency exam and skills checklist required for all clinical candidates
- Photo for badge required within one week of contract signing
- Code of conduct acknowledgment required within 7 days of contract signing
- Parking permit form must be completed within 7 days of contract signing (if applicable)
- References: 2 professional references required for clinical travel candidates
Scheduling & Attendance
- Ideally no more than 5 days of return-to-office (RTO) restrictions
- Client may cancel up to 36 hours of shifts per 13-week assignment without pay obligation
- No on-call requirement
This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg Neuro RNs with strong clinical skills in telemetry and complex patient care, seeking a travel contract in Illinois.
