Description
Registered Nurse – Operating Room
Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide direct and indirect patient care in the clinic setting using comprehensive nursing assessment, care planning, patient education, and ongoing evaluation.
- Deliver holistic, individualized care considering psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, economic, and lifestyle factors.
- Develop and coordinate interdisciplinary care plans.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare providers through effective communication.
- Experience with scrub and circulate roles required.
- Clinical experience needed in Neuro, Da Vinci Robots, total joint, and spine surgeries.
Shift Details
- 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts (40 hours/week).
- Shift start times vary: 6:45 AM, 7:00 AM, 9:00 AM, or 11:00 AM.
- Rotating weekends and overtime support required.
Required Qualifications
- Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Minimum 5 years of nursing experience.
- BLS certification (AHA).
- Experience in scrub and circulate roles in the operating room.
- Knowledge and experience with Neuro, Da Vinci robotic surgeries, total joint, and spine procedures.
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC only.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC only (verify by position).
- Other certifications may be required based on position (e.g., PALS, NRP, CCRN, TNCC, EFM) – verify as applicable.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required for some telemetry units.
Background & Screening Requirements
- 7-year background check including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC sanctions list, and Medi-Cal Suspended and Ineligible Provider List checks as applicable.
- Education verification required; BSN preferred but not mandatory.
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law).
- Employment history verification covering 7 years with no gaps over 30 days; attestations allowed only for gaps under 1 year.
- References: 2 professional references required within 3 years for clinical acute care roles.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (must indicate cleared for work).
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (exceptions apply).
- TB screening: Negative QGold or TSPOT within 90 days or 2-step PPD testing; annual renewal required.
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (series or declination)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Apr 30) or signed declination with mask-wearing requirement.
- Color blindness exam if applicable (in-person exam only).
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually (not required for some lab and pharmacy roles).
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Must review and sign facility policies including job description, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, overpayment refund policy, and regulatory orientation prior to start.
- TB questionnaire signed by candidate and healthcare provider (MD, PA, NP/APN, DO, or RN) required within 90 days of start and renewed annually.
- Photo for badge required for per diem roles.
- Religious exemption forms required for PAPR use and certain vaccine exemptions; approvals handled on a case-by-case basis.
