Registered Nurse - Telemetry (Contract)
Location: New York, NY
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 9 weeks
Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to patients on a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit. Deliver care based on nursing theory, research, evidence-based practice, and organizational standards. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and evaluate patient care plans.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
- Deliver nursing care integrating assessment and intervention skills.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Prioritize patient care activities including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Manage assignments within a Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Facilitate patient-centered care practices such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, and Discharge Wrap Up.
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Address patient and family concerns promptly and escalate as needed.
- Demonstrate empathy, respect, and active listening in all interactions.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, efficient, patient-centered care and identify barriers to quality.
- Participate in quality improvement projects, evidence-based practice activities, and nursing research.
- Follow institutional protocols to escalate safety hazards or gaps in best practices.
- Document nursing care accurately to support quality and performance improvement.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate supply and staffing needs with nursing leadership.
- Promote cost-effective use of resources.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.
Professional Development
- Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Advance clinical competence and nursing expertise.
- Demonstrate professionalism, ethical decision-making, and effective communication.
- Engage in lifelong learning, scholarship, and innovation.
- Participate in shared decision-making through committees and unit initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
- Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
- Critical care nursing experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience with Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model
- Demonstrated use of evidence-based practice in nursing care
- Prior travel nursing experience
Work Schedule
- Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (11.5 hours)
- Average weekly hours: 34.5
- Schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours each, including weekends required
- Patient-to-nurse staffing ratio: 5:1
- Unit census: Approximately 22 patients
- Unit beds: 24
