Registered Nurse - PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide individualized nursing care in the peri-anesthesia setting for geriatric, adult, and adolescent patients from admission through discharge.
- Apply knowledge of peri-anesthesia nursing fundamentals, pharmacology (doses, purpose, interactions, side effects, reactions), airway management, and nursing assessment parameters.
- Extensive cardiac/cath lab holding room experience required.
Shift Details
- 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (40 hours/week)
- Shift times: 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM or 12:30 PM to 11:00 PM
- No weekend shifts
- Float to other campuses as needed based on census
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum 2 years of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience, including experience within the last year
- Cardiac/cath lab holding room experience, including cardiac cath lab experience
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check within 6 months of start, including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC Sanctions List, Medi-Cal Suspended and Ineligible Provider List checks as applicable
- Education verification required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance for work
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (with accommodations considered for religious exemptions or failed tests)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
- Hepatitis B series or declination
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30) or signed declination
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT within 90 days) or 2-step PPD with annual renewal
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually
- Color vision exam by licensed healthcare provider prior to start
Documentation and Verification
- Full 7 years of work history with no gaps, including city and state of employment
- Employment verification for up to 7 years required; gaps over 30 days must be explained
- Two professional references within 3 years (clinical/allied/per diem acute care)
- Unit-specific skills checklist required, renewed annually
- Various facility-specific documents and attestations must be reviewed and signed prior to start (e.g., job description, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, overpayment refund policy, TB questionnaire, and religious accommodation forms if applicable)
Additional Notes
- ICU and MS/Telemetry RNs at this location will be required to take an EKG exam onsite after start
- Candidates must be prepared to float to other campuses if census requires
- Religious exemptions for immunizations and facial hair (PAPR) considered on a case-by-case basis with required documentation
- Candidates must comply with all facility policies and complete required trainings before starting assignment
This position is ideal for experienced PACU RNs with strong peri-anesthesia and cardiac/cath lab holding room skills seeking a travel contract in a high-acuity environment with no weekend shifts.
