Description
Registered Nurse – Surgical Acute
Location: Bloomington, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days (12-hour shifts, 7a–7p)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Unit Details
- Department: Surgical Acute RN
- Unit Size: 34 beds
- Patient Ratios: 4-5 patients per nurse, up to 6 in extreme situations
- Patient Types: General medical, neurological, orthopedic, and surgical patients
- Telemetry: Centralized telemetry monitoring with techs; RNs do not read strips
- Respiratory Therapy: RT staff handle all respiratory equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP)
- Support Staff: 1 Patient Care Technician (PCT) per 8-10 patients
- Charge Nurses: 3 primary charge nurses covering day and night shifts
Scheduling & Requirements
- Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Every 3rd holiday on rotation
- Call/Standby: No call requirement
- Floating: Occasional floating may be required
- Orientation:
- Experienced nurses: 4-5 weeks
- New graduates: 8-10 weeks
- Travel nurses: 3 days
- Dress Code: Any color scrubs
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Med Surg (1 year of experience)
- Med Surg experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- NIHSS
Additional Notes
- Nurses do not titrate drips on this unit; drip titration is handled in the stepdown unit
- Local rate adjustments apply for clinicians living within 50 miles (not included here)
- Orientation hours (12 hours) are non-billable and do not count toward guaranteed hours
- Call-off policy allows 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty or pay deduction
