Overview

• Travel contract for experienced Neuro ICU nurses
• Location: Carmichael, California
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour nights
• Hours per week: 36

Unit

• Neuro ICU - McAuley ICU
• 20 beds

Required Qualifications

• Active BLS
• Active ACLS
• Active NIHSS
• Active California RN license
• 2 years of Neuro ICU experience

Preferred

• 2 years in Neuro ICU preferred

Schedule and Work Setting

• Every other weekend
• Holidays rotate with core staff
• Telemetry monitoring required; must be able to read and interpret EKG strips
• Vents: yes
• Hospitalist or Intensivist in house
• RT 24/7
• Pharmacy 24/7
• First to Float to sister facilities
• Mid-shift float to another facility is rare but can happen
• 1–2 days of floor orientation with a preceptor

Patient Population

• CVA
• ICB
• Neuro surgeries
• Craniotomies
• Neuro interventional radiology
• Ventriculostomies
• Line insertions are common

Additional Notes

• Charge nurse generally does not take patients, but does break relief
• Nurse aides available as Safety Attendants (sitters)
• Navy scrubs required; undershirts must be navy, white, or black; navy scrub jackets optional
• Self-scheduling used, but schedules are not finalized until manager balances them
• Block scheduling is generally not available
• Overtime and extra shifts are available
