Overview

• Travel contract for experienced Neuro ICU nurses in California, near Sacramento.
• 14-week contract
• 12-hour nights, 36 hours per week

Unit

• Neuro ICU - McAuley ICU
• 20 beds

Required Qualifications

• Active CA RN license
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• 2 years of experience in Neuro ICU
• Able to read and interpret EKG strips

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years in Neuro ICU preferred

Schedule

• Every other weekend
• Holidays rotate with core staff
• Self-scheduling used
• Block scheduling generally not available
• OT and extra shifts available

Float Scope

• First to float to sister facilities
• Mid-shift float to another facility is rare but can happen

Clinical Details

• Ratios: 1:1 - 2
• Charge nurse generally does not take patients, but does break relief
• Nurse aides available as safety attendants (sitters)
• Vents: Yes
• Hospitalist or Intensivist in house
• RT 24/7
• Pharmacy 24/7, with ICU Pharmacy open during dayshift
• Common patient types include CVA, ICB, neuro surgeries, craniotomies, neuro interventional radiology, and ventriculostomies
• Line insertions are common

Additional Notes

• Cerner
• Navy scrubs required; undershirts must be navy, white, or black
• Scrub jackets are optional and must be navy
• Floor orientation is 1 to 2 days with a preceptor
