ICU Registered Nurse (RN) - Contract

Job Summary

Provide safe, competent, quality nursing care to ICU patients based on nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans, prioritize patient needs, and educate patients and caregivers.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

• Deliver care using Relationship Centered Care principles and nursing process.
• Assess and evaluate patient needs; apply critical thinking in care management.
• Integrate assessment and intervention skills in nursing care delivery.
• Collaborate with healthcare team on care planning and evaluation.
• Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, discharge planning, and delegation.
• Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
• Communicate professionally with patients, families, and care team members.
• Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.

Patient Experience

• Role model Relationship Centered Care practices (e.g., Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding).
• Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
• Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
• Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
• Address patient/family concerns and escalate as needed.
• Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.

Quality and Safety

• Practice safe, patient-centered care; identify and escalate barriers.
• Demonstrate clinical skills essential to quality and safety.

• Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
• Coordinate supply and inventory management with leadership.
• Escalate material or staffing shortages appropriately.
• Use patient-focused, cost-effective approaches to resource utilization.
• Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.

Qualifications

• Current New York State RN License
• BLS and ACLS certification
• Minimum 2 years RN experience, including 2 years critical care/telemetry experience
• EPIC experience highly preferred
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred; Associate degree considered with relevant experience or active BSN matriculation
• Travel experience (1 year) required for travel positions; not required for per diem

Unit and Schedule Details

• Average Unit Census: 8 patients
• Staffing Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
• Schedule: 3x12 hour shifts, every other weekend, variable shifts

Contract Length

• 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
