Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Unit & Patient Population

• Mixed Acuity Unit with medical patients and some PCU level of care patients
• Oncology and stroke unit
• Patient ratios:

  • MS patients: 1:5-6
  • PCU patients: 1:3-4
• Care areas include oncology, stroke, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary
• Will care for unstable stroke patients and BiPAP patients
• Use of Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Insulin drips

Shift & Scheduling

• Shift options: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts
• Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• No locals accepted for this assignment
• No Return to Office (RTO) requests accepted for 11/23 through 11/29

Licensure & Certifications Required

• Must have an Indiana state nursing license in hand before start (no pending licenses accepted)
• Required certifications:

  • ACLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
  • BLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for ER RNs)
• Solid neuro experience required
• Accepting MS/Tele or PCU RNs

Important Facility Policies

• Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at IU Health facilities except for Periop/OR RNs, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
• Background checks including 7-year history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, education verification
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
• Official transcript or diploma (may be pending at start)
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
• Unit competency exam
• Color Blind Testing (Ishihara or equivalent, 100% score required)
• Physical exam within 12 months of start
• Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
• Immunizations and titers:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
• References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with appropriate supervisory titles
• Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps
• Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
• Completion of facility-specific compliance and orientation documents prior to start

• Must have strong neurological nursing experience due to patient population
• Facility uses Cerner for charting and requires specific scrub colors
