Registered Nurse - Step Down Unit Nights
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Shift Details
- Unit: Step Down Unit
- Shift: Nights
- Schedule: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts approved
- Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Weekend Requirement: 2 shifts every other weekend
- Night shift weekends can be Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun depending on rotation
- Floating: Yes, within scope to lower acuity floors
- Block schedule: Not accommodated
- Locals accepted: No (local radius rule: 75 miles)
- Pending License accepted: Yes
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: 7 days within 13-week contract
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours for 3-12s
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Minimum Experience: 2 years
- First-timers: Not accepted
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (AHA only)
- BLS (AHA only)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for all nurses)
- Must have been at bedside within last 6 months
- Special Skills:
- Titration of vasopressors, sedation medication, insulin drips
- Management of trach vents, arterial lines, external pacemakers, chest tubes

Compliance & Documentation Requirements
Background Checks
- Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide and nationwide)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks quarterly
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
- State-specific searches and registries as applicable (Missouri and Illinois)
- Fingerprinting required for Illinois long-term care or rehab float assignments
Licensure
- Primary source verification of Missouri RN license via NURSYS required
- Pending licenses accepted
- License action reviews and approvals as per facility standards
Competency Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
- Unit-specific competency exam required annually
- Oncology competency exam required if assigned to Med Surg-Oncology unit
Health & Immunization
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95) required annually; onsite testing available if needed
- Tdap vaccine or declination required (expires every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframes
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination required (with no exemptions allowed in certain units)
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and be valid throughout assignment
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
Facility-Specific Documents
- HIPAA Acknowledgement, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Regulatory Compliance Education (annual)
- Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions)
- Hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start
Additional Notes
- Must provide two professional references (supervisors preferred)
- Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
- Candidates must comply with all facility policies and complete required training prior to start
