Registered Nurse (Psychiatric) - Holyoke, MA
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Schedule: Full-time, includes every other weekend and every other holiday
Location: Holyoke, Massachusetts
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse to join a new behavioral health hospital specializing in psychiatric, emotional, and substance use treatments. This role involves providing direct and indirect care within a therapeutic environment, working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct and indirect patient care in a psychiatric inpatient setting
- Maintain a safe therapeutic milieu based on core behavioral health principles
- Collaborate with the treatment team to develop, implement, and document individualized patient treatment plans
- Assist in crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed
- Float to similar or lower acuity units when required
- Take charge responsibilities (no multiplier for charge pay)
Qualifications
Education & Licensure
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of psychiatric nursing experience required
- Previous inpatient psychiatric or substance use experience preferred
- CPR certification required
- Experience with restraint reduction, de-escalation, and crisis intervention preferred
Skills
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Advanced knowledge of behavioral health and substance abuse treatment modalities
- Ability to apply nursing process from a trauma-informed recovery model
- Strong therapeutic relationship skills while maintaining professional boundaries
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Proficient with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and typing skills
- Crisis management, time management, delegation, coaching, and team-building skills
- Flexibility, creativity, and ability to manage stressful situations calmly and professionally
Additional Information
- Must be willing to float to similar or lower acuity units as needed
- Must work every other weekend and every other holiday
