Job Description

• Float Pool position in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele) unit
• Requires 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse
• Must have a current California nursing license
• Locals accepted

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA required based on specialty
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - required based on specialty
• Fire Card issued by an LAFD-approved instructor (must be obtained within 30 days of start)

Required Competencies

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (Basic Assessment A) - required for ER and Labor & Delivery
• Other competency exams as applicable by profession

Background Checks & Verifications

• Standard background check including 7-year search of locations lived/worked/school
• EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks required
• Transcript, diploma, or education verification required
• Sex offender search required
• Primary source online license verification

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam clearance within the past year
• Fit mask testing within 12 months prior to start (acceptable masks: 3M Aura 9205+, 3M 1860 Small)
• Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (2-step PPD, QGold, or T-SPOT)
• Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or 2-vaccine series required (boosters or declination if low titers)
• Hepatitis B: positive titer, 3-vaccine series, or declination with proof of prior vaccination or negative titer
• Varicella: positive titer or 2-vaccine series required (booster or declination if low titers)
• 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination (September - March)
• COVID vaccination plus booster or documentation of declination
• Color blind exam (14-plate Ishihara test) required for Float Pool and other specified specialties

Facility-Specific Requirements

• De-escalation modules attestation required for all candidates
• Assault Responsive Competency (ARC) training required within 30 days of start (live 4-hour training)
• Arbitration agreement, voluntary meal waiver, and access request forms required
• Photo for badge (passport-style) required

References & Documentation

• 2 professional references required for travel, allied, per diem acute care
• Employment application required
• Annual skills checklist required
