Job Opportunity: Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Redding, California
Specialty: Family Birthing Center
Job Description
Seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a travel assignment in a Family Birthing Center. The unit includes 19 postpartum beds, 12 L&D beds, 2 ORs, and 1 PACU. The facility handles low and high-risk deliveries and has a Level III NICU.
Contract Length
- 20 weeks
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery nursing experience
- Active California RN license
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHONN
- COVID-19 vaccination required (with certification)
Additional Information
- Must pass a proctored Dysrhythmia Test on day one (pass/fail)
- Nurse-to-patient ratios follow California standards, ranging from 1:4 to 1:1
- EMR systems used: Cerner & Fetal Link for fetal monitoring
- Weekend requirement: 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule (Sat/Sun days; Fri/Sat nights)
- Holiday work included as part of permanent staff rotation
- No nurse aides; OB techs handle scrubbing and desk coverage
- No telemetry or ventilator patients on this unit
- Laborist (OB physician) available 24/7 onsite
- Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services available 24/7
- Shift times: 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM for both day and night shifts
- Floating to Pediatrics (couplet care) and NICU feeders/growers only if experienced
- Orientation: 2-3 shifts depending on circulating experience (circulating not required)
- Common patient types: low and high-risk deliveries; transfers out for babies needing immediate surgery due to congenital defects
- Peak times for patient volume: July and October
- 12-hour night shifts every other week; first to float
