    Description

    Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (ICU)

    Location: Fortuna, California
    Contract Length: 13 weeks


    Job Details

    • Start Date: ASAP
    • Specialty: Registered Nurse - ICU
    • Years of Experience Required: 1 year (minimum)
    • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (First Time Traveler: Yes)
    • Weekend Requirement: 2 weekends off out of every 4 (weekend defined as 2 consecutive days Fri-Sun)
    • Average Daily Census: 4 patients
    • Patient Care Setting: Acute Care Facility
    • Dress Code: Scrubs or business casual
    • Return to Office Restrictions: No more than 7 days

    Required Licenses & Certifications

    • California RN License: Preferred; pending license accepted
    • Certifications:
      • ACLS (AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation)
      • BLS (AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation)
      • PALS (if applicable)
      • NRP (if applicable)
      • Other certifications as required by clinical track or unit (e.g., Chemotherapy, EFM)

    Required Qualifications & Compliance

    • Background Checks: Must have a current background check within 45 days covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; updated annually.
    • Education Verification: Nursing degree verification required; international education requires diploma/transcript or CES report.
    • References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting.
    • Employment Application: Must include at least last 5 years of employment with month/year format; no “current” or “present” entries.
    • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating fitness to work.
    • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; instant tests not accepted.
    • Immunizations & Health Requirements:
      • TDAP vaccine within 10 years or declination accepted
      • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
      • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with declination option
      • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
      • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with declination option
      • Flu vaccine during flu season or declination accepted
      • COVID vaccine or declination required
    • Respiratory Safety Clearance: Required annually for respirator use (travel only)
    • Fit Mask Testing: Required for travel starts; must be updated annually

    Training & Competency Requirements

    • Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology competency as applicable
    • Skills Checklist: Annual update required for applicable units
    • WorkRamp Modules:
      • Annual regulatory and specialty-specific modules required for travel and per diem caregivers
      • Modules assigned based on region, specialty, and facility requirements
    • Epic Access Training: Required for travel and per diem in Southern California and other specified regions

    Additional Notes

    • Float Policy: May be required to float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance.
    • Background checks and education verifications have specific state and facility requirements.
    • Some certifications and competencies may be waived for non-clinical or remote workers.

    This position offers an opportunity to work in an acute care ICU setting in California with a supportive hospital system, suitable for nurses with at least 1 year of ICU experience and no prior travel experience required.
