Description
Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: San Pedro, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse with charge experience and a strong background in multiple specialized ICUs. The ideal candidate will have experience beyond MICU, preferably in Surgical, Trauma, Shock, or Neuro ICU. The nurse will work in an acute care hospital setting with a 1:2 patient ratio and may be required to float to Tele ICU units and potentially to a nearby facility.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience (highest requirement found)
- Charge nurse experience is required
- Experience in multiple specialized ICUs beyond MICU preferred (Surgical, Trauma, Shock, Neuro ICU)
- First-time travelers accepted
Work Schedule & Floating
- Start Date: ASAP
- Weekend shifts as needed
- Floating required between like units (including Tele ICU)
- May be required to float to a nearby facility within reasonable distance
- Block scheduling possible at manager’s discretion
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Other certifications may be required based on clinical track and unit
Licensure
- Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for California
- Pending licenses are NOT accepted
Facility & Environment
- Acute Care Hospital with 189 staffed beds
- Charting system: Meditech
- Free parking available

Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Drug screening: 10-panel within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years or declination
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- COVID vaccine or declination
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use
- Fit mask testing required for travel nurses (updated annually)
Additional Requirements
- References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years
- Skills checklist updated annually (as applicable)
- Completion of required WorkRamp training modules prior to start, including:
- Regulatory requirements
- Specialty-specific modules for ICU and related units
- Facility-specific and regional training modules
- Photo for badge (passport style with neutral background)
Notes
- Floating policy acknowledgment required
- Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off once per two-week pay period
- No pending licenses accepted
- Prior travel experience is NOT explicitly required for this position
