Job Opportunity: GI Lab Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Berkeley, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with a strong background in complex gastroenterology procedures, including ERCP cases. The role involves managing nursing care from admission to discharge, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and disease prevention, and responding to medical emergencies.
Work Schedule
- Variable shift start time between 7:00 AM and 11:00 AM
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: As needed
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse (specialty experience)
- Prior travel experience: 6 months travel experience required
Required Certifications and Licenses
- California Registered Nurse (RN) License
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate patient care in accordance with nursing standards and hospital policies
- Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments, including physical, psychosocial, and educational needs
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans
- Administer treatments and medications timely and accurately
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare team members
- Respond calmly and competently to emergencies
- Maintain patient safety, comfort, and hygiene throughout care
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening
- Drug screening (9-panel, excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law) within 6 months of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- TB test or chest x-ray (annual renewal)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B vaccination or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov-Apr) or signed declination
- Respiratory safety clearance prior to start, renewed annually
- Completion of facility-specific documents and orientation prior to start
Additional Requirements
- Full 7 years of work history with no gaps in employment longer than 30 days
- Unit-specific skills checklist, renewed annually
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years (Aya requirement)
- Compliance with all facility-specific policies, including confidentiality, code of conduct, and business standards
