Description
Registered Nurse – Stepdown / Cardiac Progressive
Location: Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
Weekly Guaranteed Hours: 36 (option for 48 hours per week upon request)
Weekend Hours: Rotating, with an expectation of every other full weekend (Saturday and Sunday)

- Department: Cardiac Transitional Care Unit
- Patient Ratios: 3-4 patients per nurse
- Equipment: Typical Stepdown unit equipment
- EMR System: EPIC
- Patient Population: Cardiac Stepdown patients
Required Certifications and Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Missouri
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
Job Summary
Provide nursing care by developing nursing diagnoses, establishing care objectives, and implementing nursing interventions. Deliver physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and their families. Monitor patient conditions, document care, and collaborate with healthcare team members to adjust care plans as needed.
Essential Functions
- Deliver quality care adhering to professional standards, policies, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain safe and healthy patient care environment, including infection control and medication administration
- Document patient care accurately in records
- Monitor and report changes in patient conditions promptly
- Collaborate with healthcare team to assess and modify patient care plans
- Educate patients and families on health management and disease prevention
- Administer medications, wound care, IV therapy including central line care
- Recognize and respond to adverse signs and emergency situations quickly
- Supervise and delegate tasks to unlicensed assistive personnel and ancillary staff
- Promote patient safety and act as patient advocate
- Comply with Joint Commission standards and National Patient Safety Goals
- Assist with exams and explain procedures and discharge instructions to patients and families
Additional Information
- Flu vaccination required for all travelers from November 1 to April 1 (exemptions require approval)
- Up to 5 days off per 13-week contract can be automatically approved; additional time off requires prior approval and may need to be made up
- Candidates should expect to work at least one major winter holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s Day)
