Location: Salem, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position: Labor and Delivery RN with Postpartum and Newborn care responsibilities
- Shift: Rotating day shifts primarily between 7:00am to 7:30pm, 11:00am to 11:30pm, and 7:00pm to 7:30am with every other weekend (EOW) call (36 or 48 hours)
- Unit: Labor & Delivery/Postpartum Unit (25-bed capacity)
- Patient Ratio:
- Labor & Delivery: 1:2-3 during evaluations, 1:1 during active labor, including care for magnesium drip or epidural
- Postpartum: 1:3-4
- Average daily census: 15-25 mothers, babies, and labors
- EMR System: EPIC
- Floating: Not required
- Note: This is not a straight day shift; rotation to evenings and nights is required
Required Qualifications
- License: Current Massachusetts RN License
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Newborn care
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) certification (renewed every 2 years)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) preferred
- Skills: Labor & Delivery, Postpartum care, Circulating, Newborn care
Additional Requirements
- Fit testing for N95 respirator within 1 year of start date (no exemptions allowed)
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or immunity proof
- Influenza vaccine (required during flu season, no exemptions)
- TB screening within 3 months of start date
- Health statement signed by a licensed provider within 1 year
- Hepatitis B vaccination or immunity preferred
- Tdap vaccination preferred
- Background checks including criminal, CORI, SSN trace, sex offender registry, and exclusion lists
- Documentation of work history and education for the past 7 years
- References: 2 professional references within 4 years, including at least 1 supervisor or higher
Summary
This travel RN position in Labor and Delivery requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, current Massachusetts RN licensure, and certifications in BLS, NRP, and EFM. The role involves rotating shifts with some night and weekend call responsibilities. Strong clinical skills in labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care are essential. Compliance with immunization, health screenings, and background checks is mandatory. ACLS certification is preferred but not required.
