Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Telemetry (Tower 5)
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks (minimum)
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts)
Hours per Week: 36
Unit & Patient Care Details
- Unit: Medical Telemetry (Tower 5)
- Unit Size: 30 beds
- Patient Acuity: High acuity patients with approximately one-third patient turnover per day
- Common Diagnoses: Gynecological surgeries, pre-liver transplant, end-stage renal disease (ESRD), cellulitis, pneumonia, diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Charge Nurse Role: Yes, no patient assignment
- Support Staff: 2 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
- Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7
- Pharmacy: Available 24/7
- Ventilator Support: Bipap, Cpap (patients must be independent)
- IV Team: SWAT RN available for difficult IV sticks
- EMR System: Cerner
- Telemetry Equipment: Phillips; RNs must be able to read EKGs
- Floating: May float to any MedSurg or Tele floor
- Orientation: 2 days floor-specific orientation
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holidays: Work included in rotation
- Scrub Color: Navy
Required Certifications & Exams
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam: Must be passed 24-48 hours prior to position acceptance (maximum 2 attempts; failure results in 6-month disqualification in region)
- Pass/Fail Day 1 SIMs Lab: Includes Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (exceptions apply for certain units)
- Must have IV experience
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of core nursing experience in specialty (Medical Telemetry)
- Level 1 Trauma and teaching hospital experience required
- Prior travel experience required for Emergency Department and Neuro ICU roles (not explicitly required for this position)
Additional Requirements & Notes
- Must have natural hair color; no facial piercings allowed
- Male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Candidates cannot hold multiple contracts simultaneously with this employer
- Must have own vehicle if part of a travel team
- Must be gone from previous permanent staff employment with this employer for 12 months to be eligible for travel assignment
- Facility is a teaching hospital; nurses may be expected to work with nursing students
- Onboarding paperwork must be completed by 1pm CST Wednesday before start date; incomplete files will delay start
- Parking: Assigned parking with shuttle service; night shift assigned to parking garage
Work Environment
- High acuity tertiary care center with transplant specialties (lung, liver, kidney) and association with a leading neuro institute
- 7pm to 7am shifts
- Exposure to a variety of complex medical conditions and procedures
- Emphasis on sterile technique and competency in nursing skills during orientation and ongoing work
This position is ideal for experienced telemetry RNs comfortable with high acuity patients, telemetry monitoring, and working in a fast-paced teaching hospital environment.
