Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg/Telemetry
Location: Prescott, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) with a 30-minute unpaid lunch
Weekly Hours: 36 hours
Unit Details
- Telemetry unit on the 4th floor with 48 beds (two units: 4A and 4B)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
- Nurse aide ratio: 1:10-15
- Telemetry monitored remotely; tele techs on 3rd floor read and post strips
- RNs interpret telemetry strips and must sign at least once per shift
- Common patient diagnoses: COVID, respiratory, gastrointestinal, diabetes, TIA, CVA, general, orthopedic, and spinal surgical patients
- Respiratory equipment used: BiPAP, CPAP, high flow oxygen, and some breathing treatments
- Charge nurse does not take patient assignments
- Floating required: may float to East Campus and possibly Progressive Care Unit (PCU) if qualified
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
Experience & Skills
- Experience reading basic telemetry strips required
- Some experience with general and orthopedic surgical patients, CVA, and TIA preferred
- Cerner electronic health record experience recommended due to limited orientation (1 day on unit)
- RNs are not required to titrate drips; common set-rate drip includes Diltiazem
Scheduling & Time Off
- Schedules created for 4-week periods with self-scheduling (finalized by manager)
- Weekend requirement: 2 weekends per 4-week schedule
- Holiday requirement: Work 2 days and 1 evening or 2 evenings and 1 day during Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, and Thanksgiving Day
- No call or standby requirement
Orientation
- Unit/department-specific orientation: 1 shift on the unit
- Orientation includes every other week (eow) nights and first to float
Dress Code
- Navy blue scrubs
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Arizona
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Experience with orthopedics and stroke (CVA) patients
