Job Opportunity: Cath Lab Registered Nurse
Location: Whittier, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: Day shift, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (40 hours/week)
- Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend required
- On-Call: Minimum 1 day per week, possibly 2 depending on vacation/sick coverage; at least 1 weekend call per month with option to pick up more

- Pacemaker/Defibrillator lead extraction/removal
- Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI)
- Pulmonary Artery Line/Swan Ganz monitoring
- Rotablator atherectomy
- Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation/Replacement (TAVI/TAVR)
- Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)
- Valvuloplasty and Cardioversion
- Insertion/Programming of AICDs (Automatic Implantable Cardiac Defibrillators)
- Tilt Table Study
- Administration and monitoring of antiarrhythmics, antihypertensives, emergency medications, IV vasopressors, thrombolytics, and reversal agents
- Procedural sedation administration and monitoring
- Central line insertion assistance and management
- Blood product administration
- IV infusion pumps operation and IV start/maintenance
- Obtaining and interpreting 12 lead EKG/ECG and Activated Clotting Time (ACT)
- Circulating procedures and sheath removal/monitoring
- Infection prevention and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
- Use of external compression devices (C-Clamp, Sandbags)
Required Licenses & Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for California
- License verification required within 14 days prior to start
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum of 1 year of Cardiac Cath Lab experience
- Cardiac Cath Lab experience within the last year
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
Mandatory Training & Competency Exams
- Pass/Fail Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exams (Relias Advanced Dysrhythmia with Measurements within 72 hours of signing and a proctored onsite exam during orientation)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (passing score 80%)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) course with in-person component required for RNs in critical care areas (can pend if online version on file, must complete in-person within 90 days)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for ER, ICU/CCU, Cath Lab, and other critical units)
- Harassment Prevention Training (1 hour CA training for non-supervisory clinical staff)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start, confirming ability to perform job duties without limitations
- Negative 7-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant acceptable, marijuana excluded)
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start and annually thereafter (with religious exemption process if applicable)
- Immunizations or documented immunity required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination)
- TB screening (negative TSPOT, QGold, or 2 PPDs within 1 year)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer or vaccination series)
- Hepatitis B (3 dose series, positive titer, or declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Mar 31)
- COVID-19 vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Mar 31)
Documentation & Onboarding Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG (updated monthly)
- Education verification of highest level completed
- Employment application/resume with at least 1 year of relevant work experience and 7 years of work history if applicable
- Two professional references from manager or above, validated within 2 years
- Skills checklist updated annually (not required for non-licensed workers)
- Facility-specific documents including photo for badge (white background, shoulders up) required prior to start
- Completion of required online Oracle modules before start date
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete required competency exams and certifications timely to avoid cancellation
- Onsite pass/fail testing for dysrhythmia/EKG is strict; no remediation offered on site
- Candidates with facial hair for religious reasons must complete a mask fit test religious exemption form if failing mask fit
- Candidates declining vaccines must complete a declination form
