Job Opportunity: Labor & Delivery / Postpartum / Newborn RN
Location
- Salem, Massachusetts
Position Type
- Long-Term Assignment (approximately 13 weeks)
Unit Description
- 25-bed Labor & Delivery Unit including Labor & Delivery (L&D), Postpartum (PP), Newborn Nursery (NBN), 2 Operating Rooms (ORs), 2 Recovery Rooms (RRs), and 2 Antepartum Nursery (ANU) rooms.
- Average daily census: 15-25 mothers, babies, and labors.
Schedule
- Evening shifts: 11:00 AM – 11:30 PM
- Includes 1 night of call and every other weekend (EOW) call (36 or 48 hours)
- Rotating shifts; primarily day with rotation to evenings and nights as needed (no straight day shifts offered)
Patient Ratios
- Labor & Delivery: 1:2-3 during evaluations, 1:1 during active labor, magnesium drip or epidural
- Postpartum: 1:3-4
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Massachusetts
- Minimum 3 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience in Postpartum care
- Maternal-Newborn experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification

Licenses & Certifications (Must have current and valid)
- Massachusetts RN License (no conditional licenses accepted)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA) only
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification (renewed every 2 years; accepted NCC, K2, or AWHONN)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
Additional Required Credentials & Compliance
- Primary source verification of license and certifications within 30 days of start date; updated upon expiration
- N95 Respirator Fit Test within 365 days of start date; updated annually (no exemptions allowed)
- Respirator Medical Clearance attestation (if fit test required)
- Medication and Dysrhythmia exams with minimum 80% passing score within 365 days
- Tuberculosis (TB) test documentation within 3 months of start date; updated if break >6 months
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity documentation or vaccination proof
- Health statement signed by MD/DO/NP/PA within 365 days of start date; updated if break >6 months
- Criminal background check, Massachusetts CORI, SSN trace, National Sex Offender Check, and Exclusion Checks completed within required timeframes
- Submission of 7 years of work experience with city and state, 2 references (including at least 1 supervisor), and skills checklist completed within 1 year
- Confirmation of assignment form required upon acceptance and for any start date changes
Preferred but Optional
- Hepatitis B vaccination or immunity proof
- Tdap vaccination within last 10 years

This position is ideal for experienced Labor & Delivery RNs with strong postpartum and newborn care skills, comfortable with rotating shifts including evenings, nights, and call responsibilities.
