Registered Nurse (RN) – Oncology Acute Telemetry

Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Unit: Oncology Acute Telemetry, Tower 6
Unit Size: 32 beds
Shift: Days (7am–7pm)
Hours per Week: 36 (12-hour shifts)
Contract Length: 13 weeks minimum


Job Overview

  • Care for primarily oncology patients (85%) with some telemetry medical-surgical patients (15%)
  • Patient ratio approximately 1:4
  • Light charge nurse responsibilities with patient assignments; serve as oncology resource RN
  • Work includes floating to other MedSurg/Telemetry units as needed
  • Weekend requirement: at least 1 weekend per month
  • Holidays worked on a rotating basis depending on unit needs
  • Use Cerner EMR system
  • Telemetry monitoring with Phillips system; RN responsible for EKG interpretation
  • Ventilator support includes BiPAP and CPAP
  • 24/7 Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy support available
  • Nurse aides (2 PCTs) assigned to unit for day and night shifts
  • No hospitalist or intensivist in-house

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Arizona
  • Minimum 2 years of core nursing experience in the specialty (Oncology and Telemetry)
  • Level 1 Trauma and teaching hospital experience required
  • ACLS and BLS certifications required
  • Chemo certification is a plus
  • Cerner EMR experience required
  • Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts; failure results in 6-month disqualification in region)
  • Must pass a Day 1 pass/fail exam during orientation
  • Competency in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (SIMs Lab pass/fail) required; oncology ICU and ED have specific exceptions
  • Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings
  • Male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing
  • Must have own vehicle (travel teams only)
  • Prior travel experience required for ED and Neuro ICU roles (not explicitly stated for this role, but travel experience is generally preferred)

Orientation and Onboarding

  • Weekly orientations on Mondays (except holiday weeks)
  • Onboarding paperwork must be completed by 1pm CST Wednesday before start date; incomplete files will delay start
