Description
Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: San Francisco, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Position primarily in Emergency Department (ED) holding area.
- Must be willing to float to Medical-Surgical (MS) and Telemetry (Tele) units when not utilized in ED holding.
- Responsible for evidence-based nursing care including assessments, clinical procedures (IV, Foley catheter, dressings), patient/family education, and safe medication administration.
- Must recognize changes in patient condition and act as patient advocate.
- Works independently and collaboratively within the healthcare team.
- Expected to maintain professional appearance, complete tasks timely, accept constructive feedback, and take initiative for follow-up.
Shift Details
- Day shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM to 7:30 PM)
- Weekend rotation required
- No on-call requirement
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including Social Security trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
- Annual updates required for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS screenings.
- Education verification required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred but not mandatory.
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to California law).
- Full 7 years of work history required on application with no gaps; employment verification required for up to 7 years.
- Two professional references required within 3 years for clinical positions.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (must indicate cleared for work).
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required).
- Immunizations and/or titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT within 90 days) or 2-step PPD
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination series
- Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series (declination allowed with signed waiver)
- Varicella immunity or vaccination series
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30) or signed declination
- Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids).
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
- Unit-specific skills checklist, renewed annually.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required for Telemetry units.
- ICU RNs may be required to take an onsite EKG exam after start.
Additional Requirements
- Candidate must review and sign facility-specific documents including job description, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, overpayment refund policy, and regulatory orientation prior to start.
- TB screening questionnaire required within 90 days of start and renewed annually.
- Religious exemption forms available for certain vaccine and facial hair accommodations; must be approved case-by-case.
- No conditional background clearances allowed; all background checks must be completed prior to start or approved by facility.
