Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Oncology
Location
- Reno, Nevada
Employment Type
- Travel contract
- Contract length: 13 weeks
Unit and Patient Population
- Oncology/Cancer Unit (27-bed unit)
- Mixture of oncology and medical-surgical patients
- Primary patients: direct admits for chemotherapy and/or admitted for complications related to cancer
- Chemotherapy and immunotherapy regimens administered, including HD Methotrexate, induction/consolidation for leukemias, Rituximab, R-EPOCH, R-CHOP, etc.
- Unit equipped with remote telemetry monitoring (Telemetry testing and ACLS not required)
Schedule
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (night shift)
- 36 guaranteed hours weekly
- No call requirements
- Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Eve + Day = 1 holiday)
- May be required to float within competency level
- Required to pick up one additional shift during the schedule period
- Schedule may include weekends, holidays, and some call shifts
- Employer may cancel shifts with 48 hours’ notice for low census during the 13-week contract
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Nevada
- Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience within the last year
- BLS certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Job Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients and their families/caregivers
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using nursing process
- Coordinate care with other healthcare professionals
- Deliver care in a fast-paced, high-volume environment comparable to a Level I trauma center
- Maintain cognitive and psychosocial care standards specific to patient population
- Provide safe, optimal patient care requiring intensive continuous mental effort
Facility Environment
- Level II Trauma Center with stroke accreditation
- Serves a large regional area with high patient volume
- Advanced technology and specialized services including:
- Accredited heart failure center
- Institute for Neurosciences
- Low-dose CT imaging
- Da Vinci Robotic Surgical System
- PET/CT scanner, Biplane Angiography, and 3T MRI technologies
This position offers the opportunity to work in a specialized oncology unit within a busy, technologically advanced hospital environment.
