Description
Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Davis, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Unit Overview
- Approximately 1450 births per year
- Large midwifery practice with water labor and water births
- Use of birth slings, intermittent fetal monitoring, epidurals, and Cesarean sections (circulating role)
- Baby Friendly designation
- Emphasis on supporting physiologic birth with low Cesarean section and epidural rates
- Couplet care model and level 1 nursery (stabilize and/or transfer)
- Block scheduling available if staffing allows
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 6 months of start, including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, sex offender search, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and updated annually
- Education verification required (Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred)
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to California law)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance for work
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (specific mask types required)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days, renewed annually
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (with options for medical or religious exemptions)
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (11/1–4/30) or signed declination
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids)
Documentation and Verification
- Full 7 years of work history required on application with no gaps
- Employment verification for up to 7 years required, with explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Unit-specific skills checklist required, renewed annually
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years for clinical positions
- Various facility-specific documents must be reviewed and signed prior to start, including job description, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, and regulatory orientation
- TB screening questionnaire required within 90 days of start and renewed annually
Additional Information
- Night shift schedule with 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours)
- Candidate must be willing to support physiologic birth practices and work in a dynamic Labor and Delivery environment
- Block scheduling available depending on staffing needs
