Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg D5
Location: Chandler, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Unit: MedSurg A3 (formerly C5) with 32 beds
- Patient mix: 80% Surgical, 20% Oncology
- Common cases: Orthopedic (JCAHO-certified knee and hip program, 8-10 elective knee/hips weekly), Urological, Abdominal, Whipple, Women’s surgeries (excluding OBGyn)
- Floating assignments to MedSurg Telemetry units B2C and B2D
Shift & Schedule
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7 PM to 7 AM)
- 36 hours per week
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (days: Sat, Sun; nights: Fri, Sat) plus one major and one minor holiday
- Charge Nurse role present (does not take patients) and Unit Supervisor on site
Staffing & Support
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 (days and nights)
- Nurse aides: Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) on days; 1 PCT or Task RN at night
- Respiratory Therapist available 24/7
- Pharmacy available 24/7 with ICU pharmacist coverage on days
- No IV team; House SWAT Nurse available for difficult IV sticks
- Central monitoring station tech reads telemetry monitors (GE monitors)
Required Certifications & Skills
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Telemetry experience required; must be able to read cardiac strips and titrate down only Amiodarone and Cardizem
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within 48 hours of offer (maximum 2 attempts)
- Pass/fail simulation lab on day one of orientation
- Must be able to float to telemetry units and manage telemetry patients
Experience & Licensure
- Minimum 2 years of recent MedSurg nursing experience (within past 6 months)
- Prior travel experience is not specified as required
- Must hold an active RN license valid in Arizona
Additional Requirements & Notes
- Cannot live within 50 miles of the facility
- Must provide a current driver’s license upon application
- Floor-specific orientation: 2 shifts on the unit
- Use of Spectralink phones with call light attached
- Night shift includes 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule and is first to float to telemetry units
This position is ideal for experienced MedSurg RNs with telemetry skills looking for a 13-week travel assignment on night shift with a diverse surgical and oncology patient population.
