Home Health Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (40 hours/week)


Job Overview

  • Provide personalized home health nursing care to adult patients, including wound care, IV therapy, orthopaedic care, chronic disease management, heart failure monitoring, and Alzheimer's/Dementia care.
  • Average daily patient visits: 6, including some rural areas within a 25-mile radius.
  • May float to other offices as needed within the region.
  • Local candidates living within 100 miles are accepted but limited to one 13-week assignment with no extension eligibility.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • Minimum 2 years of Home Health nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Experience in a Home Health setting
  • Proficient in OASIS data collection and documentation
  • Phlebotomy skills
  • Starting IVs
  • Care of chest tubes
  • Tracheostomy care
  • Care of post AV fistula/shunt
  • Suprapubic catheter insertion and care
  • PCA pump use

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, no weekend shifts required.
  • Facility may call off one shift every two weeks.
  • All time-off requests must be submitted with application and approved at booking.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • I-9 or attestation required.
  • Valid Driver’s License or State ID required within 48 hours of signing; address must be more than 100 miles from the facility to avoid cancellation.
  • Background check covering 7 years of history required within 1 year of start date; must include all locations lived/worked in that period.
  • E-Verify or attestation required.
  • Education verification of highest earned degree required.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming freedom from communicable diseases.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
  • Fit test for masks within 1 year of start, updated annually.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually.
  • Required immunizations or positive titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B.
  • TB questionnaire required for all candidates.
  • Two clinical references required.
  • Complete employment application/resume and annual skills checklist.
  • Photo for badge with specific background requirements.
  • Compliance with facility-specific orientation and confidentiality agreements prior to start.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates living less than 50 miles from the facility are limited to one 13-week contract with no extension eligibility.
  • Visits may include rural areas within a 25-mile radius of Roanoke.
  • Floating between offices in the region may be required.
