Registered Nurse - PreOp
Location: Los Angeles, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (5x8 hours), 6:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Hours per Week: 40
Job Description
- Position: Registered Nurse in Pre-Operative (PreOp) care
- Requires 2 years of nursing experience
- Must hold a current California RN license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Preoperative nursing, with at least some experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Background Checks & Verifications
- Standard background check including 7-year location history and nationwide sex offender search
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Education verification via transcript, diploma, or equivalent
- Employment application required
- Two professional references recommended for travel/per diem acute care
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS and ACLS (AHA certified) mandatory
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (cardiac rhythm identification) required within 1 year prior to start
- Fire Card issued by an LAFD-approved instructor must be obtained within 30 days of start (Blue Fire Card only; Red card not accepted)
- NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit assignment
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, EFM, STABLE, Maternal Fetal Triage Index) but not specified for PreOp
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam clearance within the past year
- Fit mask testing within 12 months prior to start (acceptable masks: 3M Aura 9205+ or 3M 1860 Small)
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
- Negative TB test (QGold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD) within 12 months; documentation required for past positives including chest x-ray
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, and Varicella: positive titers required; low titers require booster; declinations generally not accepted except Hepatitis B with proof of prior vaccination or negative titer
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (September - March)
- COVID vaccination plus booster or documented declination
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Passport-style photo for badge
- Completion of orientation checklists within first 30 days (general, unit-specific competency, CORE competency, unit tour)
- Completion of de-escalation modules attestation
- Assault Response Competency (ARC) training required within 30 days of start (live 4-hour training; cost approx. $80)
- Arbitration agreement, voluntary meal waiver, access request form, and signed job description required
- Badge and parking forms required
