Job Title
- Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA)
Location
- Bakersfield, California
Contract Length
- 14 weeks
Work Schedule
- Days shift
- 10-hour shifts (may vary between 8, 10, or 12 hours depending on unit needs)
- 40 hours per week guaranteed
- Call required, including possible call on weekends
- Forced call rotation list in rare cases of staff absence
- May need to float between two hospital locations
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience
- Experience in orthopedic surgery, robotics (mandatory), neurology, and gynecology (including surgical women's health)
- Prior travel experience required (no first-time travelers)
Certifications & Licenses
- Active California RN license
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- RNFA certification
Clinical Environment & Common Cases
- Orthopedics: total joint replacements (knees, hips, shoulders), knee and shoulder scopes, total shoulder arthroplasties (TSAs)
- Urology: cystoscopies, ESWLs, TURPs, penile prosthesis, orchiectomies, open prostate surgeries (nephrectomies uncommon)
- Gynecology: hysterectomies, D&C, slings, robotic hysterectomies, gynecologic oncology, salpingo-oophorectomies
- Neurosurgery: orthopedic spine, brain tumors, craniotomies, subdural hematomas, transsphenoidal tumor surgeries, VP shunts
- Other specialties: hand surgery, podiatry, DaVinci robotic surgeries, vascular procedures (AV fistulas, thrombectomies, carotids, endarterectomies, femoral-popliteal bypasses), general surgery (open, laparoscopic, robotic), ENT (tonsils, adenoids, pediatric ENT), bariatrics, ophthalmology
Technology
- Cerner electronic medical record system required
This position is ideal for experienced OR RNFAs with strong skills in robotics and multiple surgical specialties, seeking a travel contract in California with a structured day shift schedule and call responsibilities.
