Registered Nurse (ED Holds/Telemetry) - Arizona, Gilbert

Position Overview

• Care for patients held in the Emergency Department awaiting placement, primarily medical-surgical and telemetry patients.
• Focus on cardiac telemetry with a strong cardiac tele background required.
• Nurses will care for more telemetry patients than medical patients.
• Responsible for titrating cardiac drips such as Cardizem, Heparin, and Amiodarone per physician orders and parameters.
• No ventilator management required.
• Nurses must be able to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips; no monitor techs available in the ED.
• May assist with ED patient care tasks (vitals, IV starts, medication administration) but will not be primary RN for ED patient assignments.
• Floating to med/surg, telemetry, overflow units, and other EDs as needed.

Contract Details

• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour night shifts (7 PM - 7 AM)
• Hours per week: 36
• Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• Holiday requirement: Must work 2 of 4 major holidays, rotating with permanent staff
• No call or standby required
• Self-scheduling available but may change occasionally

Unit Information

• ED holds unit with approximately 31 ED beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
• ED Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) available
• Orientation: 2 shifts of orientation to Med/Surg/Telemetry at primary campus
• Dress code: Navy scrubs

Required Certifications & Qualifications

• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam (maximum 2 attempts) prior to start
• Must pass a pass/fail simulation lab on day one of orientation
• Strong cardiac telemetry experience required, preferably 2 years
• Ability to titrate cardiac drips (Cardizem, Heparin, Amiodarone)
• Prior travel experience not required

Additional Notes

• Nurses will care for ED hold patients waiting for inpatient beds.
• Expected to float as needed to various units and ED locations.
• Must be able to decrease cardiac drips per physician orders.
• No ventilator management or respiratory therapy equipment required on this unit.
