Description
Registered Nurse – Neuro Telemetry (Neuro Tele)
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Unit: Neuro Telemetry (5NNB and 7NNB)
Beds: 32
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 7pm to 7am)
Hours per week: 36
Contract length: 13 weeks (minimum)
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on a fast-paced, high-turnover neuro telemetry unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio.
- Patient population includes tracheostomy patients, cerebrovascular accidents (CVA), traumatic brain injury (TBI), spinal surgery, encephalopathy, end-stage renal disease (ESRD), psychiatric issues, and brain tumors.
- Responsibilities include titrating drips such as Heparin, Amiodarone, Cardizem, and Insulin.
- Central monitoring with telemetry; must be able to interpret EKGs.
- Charge nurse duties with light patient assignment.
- Float to telemetry units and telemetry overflow in ICU as needed.
- Participate in bedside report.
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts every 8 weeks.
- Holidays worked according to permanent staff holiday rotation.
- Scrub color: Steel gray.
Orientation & Training
- 2-day floor-specific orientation.
- Day 1 pass/fail SIMs Lab covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (except ED and Neuro ICU with slight variations).
- Additional education on lifts, restraints, and wound care.
- Must maintain sterile field competency during SIMs Lab.
- Pass/fail dysrhythmia exam required 24-48 hours prior to position acceptance (maximum 2 attempts).
- Day 1 pass/fail exam during orientation.
- Must be able to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, and Insulin.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Arizona.
- Minimum 2 years of core nursing experience in specialty (Neuro Telemetry preferred).
- Level 1 Trauma experience required.
- Prior travel experience required for Neuro ICU or Emergency Department.
- ACLS and BLS certifications required.
- Cerner EMR experience required.
- Must have own vehicle if part of a travel team.
- Must comply with facility appearance policies: no facial piercings, natural hair colors only, men must be clean-shaven for fit testing.
- Must pass Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam prior to acceptance.
- Must be competent in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes.
- Ability to interpret telemetry and EKG strips.
- Must be able to titrate drips (Heparin, Amio, Cardizem, Insulin).

- Teaching hospital with nursing students present.
- No facial piercings and only natural hair colors allowed.
- Parking assigned with shuttle service; night shift parking in garage.
- No ventilator patients on this unit.
- No hospitalist or intensivist in-house.
- Respiratory therapy available 24/7.
- Pharmacy services available 24/7.
- Nurse aides available (4 day shift, 3 night shift) for basic care tasks.
- IV team (SWAT RN) available for difficult IV sticks.
- Facility enforces a 50-mile radius rule for local rates.
- Candidates cannot hold multiple contracts simultaneously with this employer.
- Must have been off permanent staff at this facility system for 12 months to be eligible for travel assignment.
Patient Care Ratios & Support
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4.
- Nurse aides assist with basic care including blood sugars, vital signs, and straight catheterization.
- Central monitoring for telemetry patients.
This position is ideal for experienced Neuro Telemetry RNs with trauma and travel experience seeking a challenging, fast-paced environment in a teaching hospital setting.
