Job Opportunity: Home Health Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Glen Carbon, Illinois
Shift: Day (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM), 5 days a week (40 hours/week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Manage an average of 5-20 patient visits per day using a daily point productivity system.
- Provide clinical nursing care in patients' homes, including wound care, wound vac, IV therapy (antibiotics, TPN), post-orthopedic/joint care, incision assessment, post-surgical follow-up, stroke and pneumonia care, trach care, G-tube feedings, ADL assessments, and patient education.
- Work within a designated geographic territory covering approximately 40-80 miles per day.
- Weekend work required every 3rd to 4th weekend as needed, including on-call after hours and weekends.
- Clinicians typically work within assigned PODs (groups of zip codes) but may assist other teams as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Minimum of 1 year of home health experience, with home health experience within the last year
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Phlebotomy certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience in a home care setting
- Orthopedics experience
Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Background Checks:
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches.
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- Education verification of highest nursing degree.
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Drug testing within 1 year, including a comprehensive panel.
- Immunizations and titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (with boosters or declinations as applicable).
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within required timeframes.
- Tdap vaccine or declination.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season.
- Fit mask testing (N95) with annual renewal.
- Facility-Specific Documents:
- HIPAA Acknowledgement, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Regulatory Compliance Education, Hepatitis B declination, TB Questionnaire, Hand Hygiene Policy, Fingernail Policy, Dress Code Policy, and Orientation Modules (approximately 16 hours).
- Badge photo meeting specific criteria (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months).
- Auto insurance copy required for driving positions.
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam and unit-specific competency exams updated annually.
- References:
- Two professional references required, preferably supervisors within the last year.
Work Environment & Expectations
- Guaranteed 40 hours per week.
- Mileage reimbursement provided for travel within the assigned territory.
- Weekend and on-call coverage required approximately every 3rd to 4th weekend.
- No floating outside scope of practice.
- Locals are not accepted for this travel position.
- Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions: 7 days.
Summary
This travel home health RN position requires a minimum of 2 years acute or medical-surgical experience, plus 1 year home care experience with orthopedic skills. The role involves providing comprehensive nursing care in patients’ homes across a wide geographic area, with weekend and on-call responsibilities. Candidates must hold an active RN license, BLS and phlebotomy certifications, and meet extensive background, health, and compliance requirements. This is a 13-week contract with a full-time day shift schedule.
