Description
Registered Nurse - Operating Room
Location
- Dover Foxcroft, Maine
- Critical Access Hospital with 25 beds
- Facility has 3 OR suites and 1 GI Endoscopy room
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Schedule
- Monday to Thursday, 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Department closed Fridays except for call team
- Call shifts: 4-8 per month (4:30 PM – 7:00 AM next day)
- One weekend call per month (Friday 7:00 AM – Monday 7:00 AM)
- 20-minute response time required for call
- Holiday call coverage for 1 summer and 1 winter holiday (major holidays only)
- Manager approval required for time off (RTO)
Case Types
- General surgery: gallbladders, appendectomies, colectomies, hernia repairs (laparoscopic and open)
- Orthopedics: total joints (hips, knees, shoulders), sports medicine
- Podiatry: toe amputations, bunionectomies, hammer toes
- Gynecology: mostly laparoscopic hysterectomies, tubals, hysteroscopies, DNCs
- Obstetrics: C-sections (RNs circulate in OR, not LDRP)
- Endoscopic: colonoscopies, EGDs, bronchoscopies (CSTs process scopes)
- Urology: TURPs, cystoscopies, lithotripsies, circumcisions
- No robotics, high-level trauma, or neurosurgery cases
Average Caseload
- Approximately 8-10 cases per day
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room experience as RN (1 year considered if experienced with all case types listed)
- Licenses and certifications:
- RN: BLS, ACLS, PALS
- Must be comfortable with cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation
- Must be comfortable learning and performing pre-op interviews, circulating cases, and post-op recovery duties
- Must be comfortable with EMRs; Cerner experience highly preferred
- Ability to quickly learn new technology and systems
Skills and Responsibilities
- Experience circulating the listed case types
- No pre-op or PACU experience required but must be willing to learn and assist in these areas
- Responsible for transporting patients (no transporter support)
- Assist with room turnover and cleaning (no housekeeping support)
Orientation
- 4 shifts of orientation in the department
- Option for buddy call during orientation
- Expected to take call independently starting second week
Support Team
- Supervisor and Charge RN available
- 3 CRNAs present, no anesthesiologist on site
- Respiratory Therapist support
Technology/Equipment
- EMR system: Cerner
- IV Pumps: Alaris
- Medication Dispensing: Pyxis

- Guest house available for call team if normal housing is more than 20 minutes away
