Staff Nurse – Johnson City, New York
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for protecting, promoting, and optimizing health and abilities, preventing illness and injury, and alleviating suffering through diagnosis, treatment, and advocacy. The RN ensures compliance with nursing standards and promotes a patient-centered, healing environment.
Job Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a group of patients.
- Serve as primary or accountable nurse based on unit assignment.
- Educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management.
- Administer medications safely with knowledge of pharmacology.
- Participate in resource utilization including staffing, time management, and supplies.
- Comply with nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements.
- Support Nursing Shared Governance Model through unit council participation and improvement initiatives.
- Engage in professional development and complete mandatory education.
- Integrate nursing research and evidence-based practice.
- Provide a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule
- Shift: Day
- Hours per day: 12
- Hours per week: 36
- Schedule: Every other weekend
Unit Information
- Patient population includes med/surg, neuro, cardiac telemetry patients.
- Common conditions: strokes, traumatic brain injury, craniotomies/cranioplasties, back surgeries, VP/LP shunts, seizures, syncope, hypertension/hypotension, vascular surgeries.
- Experience with telemetry patients and cardiac medications required.
- Ability to read rhythm strips and manage post-stroke patients is necessary.
- Common equipment: Bard IV pumps, GE cardiac monitor, EPCD, sit-to-stand tool, Hoyer lift, transfer boards, seizure pads.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 5 years of Med Surg nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- Experience in management roles.
- Stroke patient care experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Previous clinical nursing experience in acute care or ambulatory settings.
- Professional certification in a related nursing specialty.
- Additional certifications such as PALS or TNCC as required by the assigned unit.
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
This position offers an opportunity to work in a complex clinical environment requiring strong nursing skills, critical thinking, and experience with telemetry and cardiac care.
