Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Pediatrics (Rotating)
Location: Elmira, New York
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Description
- Small, family-friendly general pediatric unit
- Patient age range: Neonatal to 17 years old
- Patient conditions include general medical-surgical cases, mostly respiratory issues, failure to thrive, gastrointestinal problems, and mental health concerns
Required Qualifications
Licensure and Education
- Valid RN license in New York
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Certifications
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- PALS issued by American Heart Association
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of pediatric nursing experience
- Pediatric nursing experience within the last year required
Onboarding and Compliance Requirements
Skills and Competency
- Completion of unit-specific skills checklist, updated annually
- Passing score (80% or higher) on Core Competency Exams (Nursing Core Comp I, II, and III)
Health and Immunizations (must be current and documented)
- COVID-19 vaccine (optional; proof of vaccination or declination accepted)
- MMR: Positive IgG titer for each component or 2 vaccine series; if negative/equivocal, vaccination series required with timeline to complete second dose
- Varicella: Positive IgG titer or 2 vaccine series; similar rules as MMR for negative/equivocal titers
- Hepatitis B: Positive antibody titer, 3 vaccine series, or specific declination form
- Tdap: Preferred but not required; if no record, declination form required
- TB Test: One of the following within required timeframes:
- Two PPD skin tests (one within 12 months, one within 3 months) or
- One Quantiferon/Spot test within 12 months
- For past positive TB tests, chest x-ray within 12 months may be required
- Annual physical/health statement within last 12 months including vitals, height, weight, Snellen eye chart, and physician approval with no restrictions
Fit Testing
- Annual fit test completed within last 12 months prior to start
- Various approved mask types available; on-site fit testing possible if needed
Background and Screening
- Agency background check within 30 days of start including:
- SSN address trace for all counties lived/worked in last 7 years
- FACIS 3 check
- County and national criminal searches
- 9+ panel drug screen excluding marijuana (state law prohibits testing for marijuana)
Documentation
- Valid US driver’s license or state ID (not expired)
- Color headshot photo (professional, no filters, JPEG format)
- Resume covering all employment and gaps for last 7 years, including education details
- Two professional references:
- One supervisor reference from last 12 months
- One supervisor or peer reference from last 3 years
- Verification of most recent employer (agency verification accepted)
- Signed and dated job description
- Completion of various required forms and acknowledgments (e.g., code of conduct, sexual harassment acknowledgment, self-study packet, parking registration, confirmation of assignment)
Additional Notes
- Education verification required for initial degree (ASN or BSN)
- Extended travelers beyond one year must complete reassessment form
- Must review and sign education mission statement for initial assignments
This position offers a pediatric nursing opportunity in a supportive, family-oriented environment with a focus on respiratory, GI, and mental health pediatric care.
