Registered Nurse – Telemetry Float Pool

Location: Chandler, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7 PM – 7 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours (12-hour shifts)


Job Overview

Seeking experienced RNs for a travel contract in a Telemetry Float Pool covering multiple units including Telemetry, Neuro, and Medical-Surgical. Floating between units and campuses is required, including occasional mid-shift campus changes (campuses are approximately 9 miles apart).


Units Covered & Patient Types

CV Telemetry (B3A)

  • 32 beds, ratio 1:3-4
  • Patients: Post cath lab, post vascular procedures, day 2 CABG, general telemetry
  • Drips: Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, Dobutamine (titrate down only)
  • No ventilated patients; centralized telemetry monitoring
  • Orientation: 2 days on floor
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend

Neuro Telemetry (A3)

  • 28 beds, ratio 1:3-4
  • Patients: Neuro post-surgical, post craniotomy, spine, CVA post-TPA
  • Certifications: NIHSS required
  • No ICP monitoring; no ventilated patients
  • Orientation: 2 days on floor
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend

Medical-Surgical (C5)

  • 32 beds (Ortho, Surgical, Oncology)
  • Ratio 1:4 days and nights
  • Patients: Orthopedics (knee/hip replacements), urological, abdominal, Whipple, women’s surgeries (no OB/GYN)
  • Orientation: 2 shifts on floor
  • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (including one major and one minor holiday)

Medical-Surgical (B2C)

  • 29 beds, ratio 1:4 days and nights
  • Patients: General MedSurg requiring telemetry, titrating Amiodarone and Cardizem down only
  • Orientation: 2 shifts on floor
  • Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (including one major and one minor holiday)
  • New grad training unit with clinical scholar support for 4 weeks

Key Responsibilities

  • Float between Telemetry, MedSurg, ICU, Cardiac Tele, and other units as needed
  • Interpret EKGs and titrate cardiac drips
  • Pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to contract start (max 2 attempts)
  • Pass a pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation
  • Clock out/in when floating between campuses

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Active Arizona RN license or compact license
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • NIHSS certification required for Neuro unit
  • COVID-19 vaccine required or approved declination with documentation

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of current Telemetry nursing experience
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

  • Charge nurse roles available; charge nurses do not have patient assignments
  • Patient care technician support available (ratio approx. 1:16 patients)
  • Centralized telemetry monitoring with tech support
  • No ventilated patients on Telemetry units
  • Hospitalist coverage during day and on-call at night
  • Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7
  • Scrub color: Navy
  • Weekend and holiday shift requirements vary by unit
  • Floating notification given 1.5 hours before shift start; mid-shift floating possible but rare between campuses

This position is ideal for RNs with strong telemetry skills who are comfortable floating across multiple units and campuses, able to titrate cardiac drips, and pass required competency exams prior to starting.
