Respiratory Therapist I - Pediatrics
Location: Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Summary
Provide advanced respiratory care under department management and according to established policies and procedures. Deliver competent patient care focused on airway management, mechanical ventilation, oxygen and aerosol therapy, and respiratory treatments to assess, prevent, stabilize, or remedy respiratory dysfunction in pediatric patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer standard respiratory care including aerosol medication delivery, bedside pulmonary function testing, breathing exercises, oxygen therapy, and arterial punctures.
- Manage airway care including aspiration of established airways, tracheostomy care and tube changes, endotracheal intubations, and extubations.
- Perform pulmonary function testing as needed.
- Transport pediatric and neonatal patients from referral hospitals following established protocols.
- Perform advanced respiratory procedures such as umbilical arterial catheter (UAC), umbilical venous catheter (UVC), intravenous (IV) insertion, chest tube insertion, needle decompression, arterial blood gases (ABGs), and blood glucose monitoring as authorized.
- Manage extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) for cardiac and respiratory support when applicable.
- Provide comprehensive ventilator care including setup, function verification, specialized ventilator modes, patient monitoring, and weaning techniques.
- May be required to be on-call during days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Maintain and improve job knowledge and skills; function independently with minimal supervision and serve as a resource to other staff.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed Respiratory Therapist in North Carolina.
- Experience in pediatric respiratory therapy.
- Ability to perform advanced respiratory procedures and manage complex ventilator settings.
- Willingness to work night shifts and be on-call as needed.

- This position requires 14 weeks commitment.
- Prior travel experience is not specified as a requirement.
