Registered Nurse (ER RN) - Phoenix, Arizona


Job Details

  • Contract Length: 13 weeks minimum
  • Unit: Emergency Department / Trauma
  • Unit Size: Acute - 36 beds, Subacute - 54 beds, Trauma bays - 6 (no travelers assigned here)
  • Patient Volume: Approximately 250-300 patients per day, 88,000 patients per year
  • Patient Types: Trauma, burns, psych holds (30-40), pediatric patients transferred out, spinal cord injury, CP center cases
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per month (unit discretion)
  • Orientation: 2-3 shifts floor-specific orientation plus day 1 pass/fail exam and SIMs Lab skills testing
  • Floating: Float within ER and between 4 nearby facilities (main campus, Westgate, and 2 free-standing ERs about 30 minutes apart)
  • EMR System: Cerner
  • Telemetry: Phillips monitors; ability to read strips required
  • Ventilator Management: Respiratory Therapists (RT) manage vents
  • Support Staff:
    • 2 Charge Nurses with light patient load or task assignments
    • 4 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) for sitter duties
    • Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
    • Pharmacy available 24/7 with pharmacist in ER 10 hours/day
    • Hospitalists, intensivists, midlevels, and anesthesia present onsite

Required Certifications & Exams

  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) — ENPC does NOT substitute for PALS
  • Preferred Certifications:
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • ATCN (Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses)
  • Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam: Must be passed 24-48 hours prior to position acceptance; maximum 2 attempts allowed. Failure results in 6-month disqualification from assignments in this region.
  • Day 1 Pass/Fail Exam: Administered on first day of orientation; study guide provided.
  • SIMs Lab: Pass/fail skills lab on Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (varies by unit). Competency in sterile technique is mandatory. Additional education on lifts, restraints, and wound care provided.

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years of core ER nursing experience required
  • Trauma Experience: At least 6 months of Level 1 trauma experience required
  • Trauma Level: Facility is Level 1 Trauma Center
  • Teaching Experience: Experience in a teaching hospital setting required
  • EMR Experience: Cerner experience required for ER
  • Prior Travel Experience: Required for Emergency Department and Neuro ICU assignments

  • Vehicle: Travel teams must have their own vehicles
  • Appearance: No facial piercings allowed; only natural hair colors permitted; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
  • Concurrent Contracts: Candidates cannot work multiple contracts simultaneously with this employer
  • Employment Gap: Must have been off permanent staff at this health system for 12 months to be eligible for travel assignment
  • Onboarding: Complete onboarding by 1pm CST Wednesday before start date; incomplete files will delay start
  • Float Policy: Nurses may float between 4 facilities within a 50-mile radius
  • Parking: Assigned parking with shuttle service; night shift parking in garage
  • Patient Care: Nurses may be expected to supervise nursing students
  • Scrub Color: Navy
