Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Night Shift)
Location: Los Angeles, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Specialty: Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in Labor and Delivery nursing
- Locals Accepted
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA certified
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA certified
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- AWHONN or C-EFM (Advanced Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – must be renewed every 2 years
Required Licenses
- Valid California RN license (primary source verification required)
Required Competencies and Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (Cardiac Rhythm Identification) within 1 year prior to start (does not expire)
Background and Screening Requirements
- Standard background check including 7-year residential/work/school history and nationwide sex offender search
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Education verification (transcript, diploma, or equivalent)
- Employment application
- 2 professional references (for travel, allied, or per diem acute care roles)
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam clearance within the past year
- Fit mask testing within 12 months prior to start (acceptable masks: 3M Aura 9205+ or 3M 1860 Small)
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination
- Negative TB test (QGold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD) within 12 months; if past positive, chest x-ray within 5 years and documentation of treatment required
- Positive titers or boosters required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (3-vaccine series or positive titer; declination accepted only with proof of prior vaccination or negative titer)
- Varicella
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination (September through March)
- COVID vaccination plus booster or documented declination
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Fire Card issued by an LAFD-approved instructor must be obtained within 30 days of start (Blue Fire Card only; Red card not accepted)
- Assault Response Competency (ARC) live 4-hour training required within 30 days of start (cost approx. $80)
- Maternal Fetal Triage Index (MFTI) certification required within 30 days of start (cost approx. $75)
- Completion of orientation checklists within first 30 days of assignment, including:
- General orientation
- Unit-specific competency
- CORE competency
- Unit tour
- Photo for badge (passport-style) required
- Various facility-specific attestations and agreements (e.g., de-escalation modules, arbitration agreement, voluntary meal waiver, access request form) required for all candidates
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- Advanced Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification

- All certifications and health documents must be current and uploaded as required
