Description
Registered Nurse – Emergency Room (ER)
Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care in the Emergency Department with a strong understanding of evidence-based practice, pathophysiology, pharmacology, regulatory issues, and disease processes.
- Perform clinical procedures including IV insertion, Foley catheterization, and wound dressings.
- Deliver effective patient and family education.
- Utilize telemetry monitoring, ventilators, and administer medications safely.
- Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition promptly.
- Act as a patient advocate and role model safety behaviors.
- Work independently and collaboratively within the healthcare team.
- Maintain professional appearance and complete assigned duties timely.
Shift Details
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Weekend rotation required
- No on-call requirement
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Education: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including social security trace with all aliases, county searches, sex offender registry, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
- Annual updates required for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS screenings.
- Education verification required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids per California law).
- Full 7 years of work history with no gaps over 30 days; employment verification required.
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years (Aya requirement, not client).
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, cleared for work.
- Fit test for approved masks within 1 year, renewed annually.
- Immunizations and/or titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days, renewed annually
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella – immunity or boosters as needed
- Hepatitis B series or signed declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination series
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season (Nov 1 – Apr 30)
- Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids).
Competency and Testing
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams as applicable.
- EKG competency and pass/fail testing required onsite after start for ICU and Med-Surg/Telemetry RNs at this location.
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Review and sign facility policies including dress code, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, and regulatory orientation prior to start.
- Complete facility-specific attestations such as conditional offer of employment and religious accommodation forms if applicable.
- TB screening questionnaire signed by candidate and healthcare provider within 90 days of start, renewed annually.
- Epic questionnaire required for all RNs starting November 3, 2025, and onward.
