Description
Occupational Therapist (Outpatient OT)
Location: Merced, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Setting: Outpatient Occupational Therapy with emphasis on hand therapy and splinting experience
- Shift: Day shift, 8-hour shifts (40 hours/week guaranteed)
- Weekend Requirement: None for OT
- Work Schedule: Primarily 8-hour days; 10-hour shifts may be considered for Physical Therapy travelers only
- Patient Population:
- Outpatient: Pediatric to geriatric diverse population
- Inpatient: Adult and geriatric with orthopedic, neurological, medical, and pulmonary complications
- Common Diagnoses: Stroke, elective hips and knees, pulmonary complications, neurological and orthopedic conditions
- Orientation: General department orientation with skills checklist and assigned clinician
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Cerner B (upgraded version)
Facility & Environment
- Hospital Beds: 189 total (includes ICU, telemetry, medical, surgical, mother and baby units)
- Hospital Census: Approximately 150 patients on average
- Telemetry Beds: 34 beds with telemetry capability on all floors
- Ventilator Patients: Typically 2-4, sometimes up to 6
- Support Services:
- 24/7 Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy
- Hospitalists, Residents, and Telemedicine Intensivists in ICU
- Therapy Team Composition: Includes inpatient and outpatient OTs, PTs, PTAs, COTAs, and Speech Therapists, with some travelers on staff
- Additional Programs: JCAHO-certified Stroke program (NIH certified), Early Mobility Program (vent early mobility level 2)
Required Qualifications
- Valid California Occupational Therapist license
- BLS Certification
- Experience:
- Manager will consider new graduates and those with less than 2 years of experience
- Hand therapy and splinting experience preferred
Additional Information
- Dress Code: Burgundy polo or long sleeve shirt, black pants, and shoes
- Floating: Not required for OT; PT travelers may float to inpatient acute hospital if willing
- Location Notes:
- Off-site outpatient center located 2.5 miles (8-minute drive) from main hospital
- Area offers access to Yosemite, Monterey Bay, San Francisco, and Sierra Nevada for weekend activities
