Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Santa Monica, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work primarily in an ASC outpatient clinic with required floating to the Main OR as needed.
- Responsibilities include circulating and scrubbing in the OR (SCRUB required).
- Patient ratio: 1:1
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM – 5:00 PM)
- Weekend work is not required.
- Floating between units (ASC outpatient clinic and Main OR) is mandatory.
- Block scheduling may be accommodated at manager’s discretion.
- No on-call duties.
- Guaranteed hours with the possibility of one call-off per two-week pay period.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
- Minimum 5 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Facility & Work Environment
- Acute Care Hospital with 266 staffed beds, located beachside.
- Charting system: Epic.
- Scrub color for RNs: Navy Blue.
- Parking available with associated costs.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID).
- Social Security Card (as applicable for I9 verification).
- Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; must be updated annually.
- Education verification required for nursing degree; international education requires additional documentation.
- NURSYS license verification required.
- Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant tests acceptable).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, confirming ability to work.
- Immunizations and health requirements:
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years (declination accepted).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required).
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with acceptable alternatives.
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with acceptable alternatives.
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted).
- COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations not required but unvaccinated must follow infection prevention protocols.
- Respirator clearance (RespSafety) required annually for travel nurses.
- Fit mask testing required; onsite fit testing available. PAPR masks not accepted in OR.
- References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years.
- Employment application covering at least the last 5 years required.
- Skills checklist updated annually as applicable.
Training & Competencies
- Completion of required competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable.
- Epic training modules completion required prior to or shortly after start date.
- Annual completion of regulatory and specialty-specific Workramp training modules.
Additional Notes
- Float policy acknowledgment required due to floating between units.
- Pending license applications are not accepted.
- Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions must be included at time of submission.
- Background checks must include SSN trace, death master index, sex offender registry, education verification, and other checks as applicable.
- Candidates with felony convictions or multiple DUI charges will not be approved.
- Background and credentialing documentation must be current and complete prior to start.
This position is ideal for experienced OR Registered Nurses seeking a travel contract in a dynamic acute care setting with opportunities to work in both outpatient and main OR environments.
